Chinese manufacturer of camera rigging and accessories, known for modular cage systems and wireless follow focus systems.

Technical Details

Tilta cage systems use anodized aluminum with thicknesses ranging from 2-4mm and weigh between 200-800g depending on the camera model. The rod systems operate with a 15mm diameter for lighter setups and 19mm studio standard for heavier configurations, with lengths from 150mm to 450mm. Follow focus units offer gear ratios from 1:1 to 4:1 and operate with a 0.8 pitch gear according to industry standards. Wireless follow focus systems achieve ranges up to 100 meters at 2.4GHz frequency and a latency under 20 milliseconds.

History & Development

Tilta was founded in 2008 in Shenzhen in response to the emerging DSLR revolution, when camera models like the Canon 5D Mark II first enabled high-quality video recording but were delivered without professional rigging systems. In 2012, the company established itself internationally with the Nucleus Follow Focus system, followed by the introduction of wireless systems in 2016. In 2019, Tilta expanded its portfolio to include gimbal systems and electronic lens controllers, and in 2021, integrated monitoring solutions with 5-inch displays.

Practical Use in Film

Tilta systems are used in productions such as "The Batman" (2022) for Steadicam configurations and in Netflix series for documentary handheld shots. The modular design allows for quick conversions between tripod, handheld, and gimbal operation within 2-3 minutes. Cage systems reduce vibrations by up to 40% compared to camera bodies alone and offer additional mounting points for monitors, recorders, and wireless systems. The Nucleus-M enables precise focus pulls with an accuracy of 0.1mm on the lens focus ring.

Comparison & Alternatives

Tilta competes directly with SmallRig (cheaper, but less robust), Wooden Camera (American, premium-oriented), and ARRI standard accessories (significantly more expensive). While SmallRig cages range from €150-€300, comparable Tilta systems cost €400-€600, but offer more precise manufacturing tolerances and more stable connections. In high-end productions, Tilta components are often combined with ARRI standard elements, with Tilta used for accessories and ARRI for base systems.

Current News

In 2026, Tilta expanded its portfolio with specialized products for modern camera rigs. The Hydra Arm Pro V2 offers two-axis damping for gimbal setups up to 8kg, while the CT6 Carbon Fiber Cage Kit, weighing only 420g, enables ultra-light rigs for Sony FX3/FX6 and Canon R5C. The integration of NFC control and magnetic grips demonstrates Tilta's focus on user-friendly professional equipment.

Current News

With the Modular Monitor Arm, Tilta expanded its portfolio in 2026 with a versatile monitor mount featuring 360° pan and adjustable tension. The system supports 5-7" monitors like the Atomos Shinobi and offers integrated cable management. Compatibility with cold shoe multipliers allows for flexible configurations from desktop to field recording setups.

Perspectives

Cinematographer
