Nanlite Forza: COB LED light fixture (60–720W, up to 57,400 lux) with Bowens mount and DMX/wireless control; cost-effective alternative to Aputure.

Technical Details

The Forza 60 measures 195×140×95mm at 1.1kg, while the Forza 500 comes in at 285×190×125mm and 2.6kg. The lights utilize COB (Chip on Board) LED technology and achieve up to 57,400 Lux at one meter with a reflector. Dimming is stepless from 0-100% without color shift. All models feature DMX512 connectivity, 2.4GHz wireless remote control, and mobile app control. The Forza 720 additionally offers CRMX integration for wireless DMX transmission. Cooling is managed by temperature-controlled fans with a quiet mode below 25dB.

History & Development

Nanlite introduced the first Forza generation in 2019 as a response to the dominance of Aputure and Arri in the LED segment. The Forza 60 quickly established itself as a budget alternative to Aputure's Light Storm series. In 2021, the Forza 60B followed with additional bi-color functionality (2700K-6500K). The current Forza 60C from 2022 integrates RGB technology with over 36,000 color combinations and advanced effect programs like strobe, police light, and candlelight simulation.

Practical Use in Film

Forza lights primarily serve as key lights in smaller setups or as fill lights in larger productions. The Forza 60 is suitable for interviews and talking heads up to 2m distance, while the Forza 300 provides sufficient power for full-body shots. Bowens mount compatibility allows for the use of softboxes, octaboxes, and Fresnel attachments. Battery compatibility via V-mount or Gold-mount batteries proves particularly useful in run-and-gun productions.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to the Aputure Light Storm 60D, the Forza 60 offers identical light output at 40% lower cost, but with less robust materials. Arri's SkyPanel series surpasses Forza lights in color accuracy and build quality, but costs ten times as much. Direct competitors include the Godox VL series and Amaran models from Aputure. For productions with limited budgets and frequent location changes, Forza lights represent the optimal compromise between performance, portability, and cost.

Perspectives

Cinematographer
