Foxy Crane

Overview

The Foxy is a series of modular camera cranes from the German grip and camera equipment manufacturer Panther. The crane's reach and application are adapted through interchangeable boom segments, and it is available in two basic operating modes: as a Platform Version (with the camera operator and possibly an assistant riding on the crane platform) and as a Remote Version for operation with a remote-controlled remote head, where no one rides on the crane.

The Foxy is among the classic camera cranes commonly used on set for moving up and down, pans, and arc shots. It can also be used as a pure jib arm on a Panther dolly as a base.

Model Variants

The series has been developed over several generations:

• Foxy – the original model
• Foxy Advanced – reinforced, longer, and higher load-bearing version with additional safety features
• Foxy Pro – current generation; according to the manufacturer, up to approx. 10% higher payload compared to the Foxy Advanced. Additionally, there is a lighter, wind-reduced Foxy Pro Air variant with perforated outriggers.

Outriggers and counterweights ensure stability. The exact payload depends on the boom length and configuration; binding values can be found in the data sheet or operating manual of the respective model.

On-Set Use

The Foxy is operated by the Grip department. In the Platform Version, the camera operator controls the camera directly from the riding seat; in the Remote Version, the crane carries a remote head that is controlled from the ground, allowing for greater reach and up/down movements without personnel riding along. The modular design allows the same crane to be set up with different boom lengths depending on the shooting situation.
