Overview
The Cato series is a set of anamorphic cinema lenses from manufacturer Blazar Lens, introduced in October 2024. All focal lengths feature a constant 2x anamorphic squeeze and cover full-frame sensors. Blazar promotes the series as the lightest 2x full-frame anamorphics on the market; the low weight is explicitly aimed at gimbal, handheld, and Ronin 4D operation.
Optically, the lenses deliver a classic 2x anamorphic look with oval bokeh geometry, visible barrel distortion, and a neutral silver flare that adopts the color of the respective direct light source, rather than producing a fixed-colored (e.g., blue) streak.
Technical Specifications
The series includes four focal lengths, available in PL and EF mount. Each lens features a 16-blade iris and a focus throw of 210°.

Other Dimensions:
- Front diameter: 85 mm (40 mm: 95 mm); Filter thread 82 mm (40 mm: 86 mm)

On-Set Usage
Due to their low weight (under approx. 1 kg per lens) and compact design, the Cato series is particularly suitable for mobile setups – gimbals, shoulder rigs, and drone/Ronin operation – where heavy classic anamorphics reach their limits. The consistent 2x squeeze on full-frame delivers the wide Cinemascope format with pronounced anamorphic character; the neutral silver flare can be creatively controlled by the color of the light source. As a price-accessible series (complete 4-lens set around $4,599 MSRP at market launch), Cato positions itself in the independent, documentary, and owner-operator segments.
