Overview
The Orion Series is a range of anamorphic prime lenses from the US manufacturer Atlas Lens Co. It uses a true front anamorphic group and produces a classic anamorphic look: oval bokeh, horizontal streak flares, pronounced focus breathing, and characteristic fall-off. The lenses are particularly common in the independent and mid-budget sectors because they offer an anamorphic look at a significantly lower price compared to established anamorphic lenses.
In addition to the original Orion Series with blue-tinted flares, there is the Silver Edition, whose flares are neutral and adopt the color of the light source on set.
Technical Specifications
- Optical design: true front anamorphic group
- Squeeze factor: 2x
- Maximum aperture: T2 for wide-angle and standard focal lengths; longer focal lengths are slower (e.g., T2.2/T3.2)
- Diaphragm: 14-blade iris
- Front diameter: 114 mm for the standard focal length range (individual extreme focal lengths vary)
- Mounts: PL and EF

| Diaphragm Blades | 14 |
| Front Diameter (Standard Series) | 114 mm |
| Mounts | PL, EF |
Focal Lengths
The series has been expanded over time and includes a wide range from wide-angle to telephoto, including 32, 40, 50, 65, 80, and 100 mm as the original core set, as well as supplementary focal lengths such as 18, 21, 25, 135, and 200 mm. The focal lengths share uniform housing dimensions and standardized focus and aperture gears, which facilitates changes during a shoot.
On-Set Usage
The Orion lenses are used for 2x anamorphic shooting and result in a wide aspect ratio (typically around 2.39:1) with signature oval bokeh and horizontal flares. Due to the large front diameter of the standard series (114 mm), they are suitable for common clip-on matte boxes. As they are front anamorphics, the anamorphic effects (bokeh shape, breathing, flares) appear optically in the image and do not need to be simulated in post-production.
