Super-16 film camera by ARRI (1992-2009) — standard for 16mm production for three decades, quiet-running, modular, still in active use for analog commercial and music video shoots.
The ARRI Arriflex SR3 is the third generation of the Arriflex SR family – Super 16mm film cameras introduced in 1992 as the successor to the SR2 and produced until 2009. The camera remains in active use in 2026 as it is the definitive tool for authentic 16mm film shoots: Quiet Running (approx. 24 dB(A) at 25 fps), PL Mount, modular (magazine change times under 15s), video tap standard.
The SR3 covers 4-perf Super 16 (1.66:1 or 1.85:1) and standard 16 (1.33:1). The usual frame rate range is 5-150 fps (SR3 HS variant up to 150 fps, standard SR3 up to 75 fps). Workflow: 400 ft magazine = approx. 11 min at 24 fps. Sound sync via Aaton timecode module or external slate. Lab processing through the few remaining film labs (Cinelab Romania, FotoKem, Kodak Cinelab – available but requires advance planning).
Standard lens sets include Zeiss Super Speed S16, ARRI/Zeiss Ultra16, or Cooke Speed Panchro / Optar. The camera is compatible with all S16 PL lenses. Three viewings in the FilmRadar database within 14 days (May 2026): The Mystery Guest (Tarazona), The Last Picture Shop (Saint Pierre), and earlier model Skater (Feldman) – demonstrating the 16mm film revival in high-end commercials 2025/2026.
