Rugged/sealed variant of the ARRI Alexa 35 (2024) — identical ALEV 4 Super 35 sensor, but body designed for wet, cold, and high-vibration shoots (marine, snow, action, field production).

The ARRI Alexa 35 Xtreme was introduced in 2024 as a production variant of the standard Alexa 35. The sensor (ARRI ALEV 4 Super 35) is identical — all image parameters, codec options, and workflow tools are 1:1 with the standard Alexa 35. The difference lies exclusively in the body: denser housing construction, sealed connections, higher IP protection class, and greater vibration and temperature tolerance.

Use Case

The Xtreme is primarily designed for field production — marine shoots, snow mountains, desert action, documentaries under extreme weather conditions. ARRI positions it as the "shoot day insurance" variant: same image quality as the standard Alexa 35, but drastically reduced risk of equipment failure under adverse conditions.

Studio Adoption (Surprising)

Lens Addiction sighting May 28 ('The Void' / Izzy Belage / Studio258 Paris): Xtreme in a classic studio setup with ARRI/Zeiss Ultra Prime set. The pattern: DPs are choosing the Xtreme even in controlled studio environments because the more robust body form factor means less wear-and-tear risk during longer shooting blocks with frequent body repositioning.

Rental Price

Daily rental 2026: approx. 1,500-2,000 EUR/day (Standard Alexa 35: 1,200-1,500 EUR/day). Surcharge approx. 25 percent — negligible for high-end productions aiming to reduce shoot day risk.

Market Position

The Xtreme is ARRI's answer to RED V-RAPTOR setups and Sony Burano sealed variants. In the high-end commercial/music video market, the Xtreme is still in the adoption phase — most productions doing action/field work continue to use the standard Alexa 35 with a protective housing. Initial sightings in the Q2 2026 commercial market indicate growing adoption.
