Creating skeletal structure and controls for 3D character animation.

Definition

Rigging creates the "skeleton" of a 3D model – joints, bones, and controls that animators use to move the model. It's the bridge between modeling and animation.

Practical Application

Every animated character needs a rig. From simple objects (doors) to complex characters with hundreds of controls. Auto-rigging tools speed up the process.

Technical Details

Skeleton: Hierarchy of joints. Skinning: Binding geometry to the skeleton. Inverse Kinematics (IK) for natural movement. Blend Shapes for facial animation. Control Curves for the animator interface.
