1980s anamorphic camera system with built-in squeeze element; compact design suited for budget CinemaScope productions. Remains a mid-budget industry staple.

Technical Characteristics

As a cinematographer, I appreciate the E-Series for its distinctive visual language and the beautiful horizontal flares, especially when shooting at night with light sources. The lenses have a very organic feel and produce natural vignetting, which adds extra depth to the image. The panavision-e-series-anamorphic is a process in film production. Anamorphic, Classic (rental only)

Areas of Use

For me as a director, the E-Series lenses offer the opportunity to give my films a classic, cinematic look that is familiar to audiences. The anamorphic visual language particularly supports epic narratives and creates an emotional distance that is very valuable for certain genres. The E-Series is a costly but rewarding investment that requires careful budget planning. Since the lenses are only available through Panavision, I have to check availability early and conclude corresponding contracts – especially for international productions, this can present logistical challenges.
