US manufacturer of battery-powered LED panels (Nova series) and flexible OLED mats (LiteCloth) with app control and wireless DMX for mobile film lighting.
Technical Details
The Nova series offers LED panels in sizes from 15x15cm to 60x30cm with a variable color temperature between 2700K and 6500K. The flagship Nova P300c produces 4200 Lux at one meter, weighs 2.8kg, and runs for 45 minutes at full power with a V-mount battery. The LiteCloth series uses flexible OLED technology in sizes up to 90x60cm with uniform illumination without hotspots. All devices support 16-bit dimming from 0.1% to 100% and offer RGB+WW color mixing with over 16 million color nuances.
History & Development
Intellytech originated in 2013 from the realization that professional LED lighting was too heavy and wired. Founder Kevin Chen initially developed the first battery-powered bi-color panels for corporate productions. In 2016, smartphone apps for lighting control were integrated, followed by the first fully wireless DMX implementation in 2018. The LiteCloth technology introduced in 2020 enabled large-format, bendable LED mats for film production for the first time.
Practical Application in Film
The Nova panels are frequently used as mobile key lights in documentary productions where quick setup times are crucial. In "The Queen's Gambit" (2020), LiteCloth mats were used as hidden fill lights in chessboard reflections. App control allows for precise color corrections during shooting without physical access to the fixture. Disadvantages include limited battery life at full power and the high purchase price of €2000-€4000 per panel.
Comparison & Alternatives
Intellytech competes directly with Aputure (AL-M9/MC series) and Litepanels (Gemini series), but distinguishes itself through a consistently battery-powered concept. While Arri SkyPanels offer higher light output, they remain stationary and power-bound. Wireless DMX integration surpasses cheaper alternatives like Godox or Neewer, which only offer manual control. For budget productions, Aputure MC Lights are a more cost-effective alternative without compromising performance in smaller formats.
