In-Camera Visual Effects using LED walls to capture final composites during filming.

Definition

ICVFX (In-Camera Visual Effects) utilizes LED volumes to display backgrounds in real-time during shooting. The final compositing occurs within the camera rather than in post-production.

Application in Practice

"The Mandalorian" established ICVFX for TV productions. "The Batman" and "House of the Dragon" use the technology. Perfect reflections, correct lighting, and parallax in-camera.

Technical Details

LED walls with <2.5mm pixel pitch. Unreal Engine or similar real-time engines. Camera tracking (Mo-Sys, OptiTrack) for correct perspective. Color calibration for accurate color reproduction.
