Definition

Hair & Fur Simulation calculates the behavior of thousands to millions of individual hairs/fibers, including dynamics, collision, and rendering. One of the most demanding disciplines in CGI.

Practical Application

Every digital character needs convincing hair: Gollum, Caesar, Thanos. "Brave" revolutionized CG hair with Merida's curls. Modern tools like Xgen, Yeti, and Ornatrix are standard.

Technical Details

Guide Curves define main strands. Interpolation generates millions of hairs. Dynamics calculate movement. Rendering with special Hair Shaders (Marschner, etc.). Clumping, Frizz, and Kink for realism.
