Stunt performer specialized in extreme, high-risk sequences — free falls, explosions, vehicle crashes from live angles. Insured and trained where CGI falls short visually.

The Daredevil represents a very specific type of stuntman — not simply a specialist in fights or falls from moderate heights, but the one who takes on scenes on set that make the insurance broker nervous. Free fall from 30 meters, jumping through a burning window facade, driving a car off a cliff — that is their domain. Unlike the standard stunt team, the Daredevil works at the boundary between what can be cleanly insured for filming and what looks like pure madness. And that's precisely the point: it looks like pure madness because the viewer knows — or believes they know — that there is a real human risk involved.

On set, it works like this: the first assistant director and the stunt coordinator discuss the scene. Can CGI enhancement be used? Is a double fall from 15 meters with an airbag visually convincing enough? Or is the real drop needed? The Daredevil comes into play at this point at the latest. They not only have the physical condition and courage — they also have the insurance, the permits, the medical clearance. A standard stuntman is often not allowed to do this. The Daredevil has specialized, trained, and certified. They know every millimeter of the crash mat, the net rigging, the camera angles that must show their fall in full view.

The reality is less romantic than it sounds. Daredevils often work with extreme preparation — weeks of physical training, jump training, playing through injury scenarios. They are not reckless in the sense of being careless; they are calculatedly risky. The difference between a Daredevil and a stuntman performing a foolish action lies in control — knowing where the limits are and not exceeding them. In the filming of action blockbusters, where practical effects must still be visible before CGI fills, the Daredevil is indispensable. They deliver footage that no VFX team could fully synthesize later without it looking cheap.

This is related to the concept of the stunt coordinator, who is more responsible for planning and safety. The Daredevil is the executing hand — and their name says it all.
