Standard fields include Timecode In/Out, Clip Number, Camera Type (ARRI Alexa, RED Dragon, Sony Venice), Recording Format (4K, 6K, 8K), and Color Temperature (2700K to 6500K). Digital workflows integrate metadata automatically via ARRI Metadata Exchange (AMX) or Sony's Content Browser. Analog 35mm productions additionally record Film Type (Kodak Vision3 5219, Fuji Eterna 8563) and developing instructions.

The camera report originated in 1915 with early Hollywood studios as a handwritten logbook for cost control of expensive nitrate film. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer standardized the first printed forms with clearly defined categories in 1928. Practical Use in Film
For "1917" (2019), cinematographer Roger Deakins documented over 4,000 setups for the seemingly continuous sequences, with each take provided with GPS coordinates of the Steadicam position. Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" (2017) used separate reports for 65mm IMAX footage and 35mm shots to coordinate the different developing processes. Since 2018, Netflix productions have required digital camera reports with proxy linking for immediate on-set review.
Comparison & Alternatives
The camera report differs from the continuity report by its technical focus rather than narrative continuity errors.
