On set, you'll recognize the effect immediately: highlights gain a soft, almost creamy halo, while shadows retain their texture. This is where you can still see detail in a face, yet the skin breathes softly—ideal for dramedy or psychological portraits where you need vulnerability without soft-focus kitsch.
The optical design utilizes partial scattering rather than total diffusion. Tiffen has worked with targeted surface textures here that meter the incoming light, not dissolve it. When shooting, you'll notice this during focus pulling: you can work sharper than with traditional diffusion filters because the filter doesn't reduce depth of field as dramatically.
